Can I use grad school as my excuse for not regularly updating this? Because I am going to.
My “boring” and loooooong protocol (takes 5.5 hours). Pour something on plate, let it sit for between a few seconds to an hour on the shaker, suck it off plate, pour the next item on the plate, repeat, repeat, repeat. Hope that you do it right so that you get pretty pictures on the microscope the next day. 😌🔬 #scienceinaction #science #scicomm #gradschoollife
So I’m going to give a little recap on how my 2017 resolutions are going (here is my post about setting them).
I’ve definitely been reading but probably not as many academic papers as I should be. Although to be fair, I don’t think I will ever feel I have read enough. As for fun reading aka books, I finished A Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes. It was a nice, encouraging book. If you’re a Shonda Rhimes fan I would 100% recommend it. So I’m going to count that both towards my reading and having a better attitude resolutions.
And then really the rest of my resolutions are more so about my training including posting on them regularly. I think part of my lack of posting is the shame that I haven’t been running or training as much as I want to. I’ve only run 4 times this year, totaling 20 miles. I want to blame it on my calves bothering me (which is 100% true, they have been acting up a lot) but it’s really more than that. I’ve really lost the desire to get out and go running the last two months. I think a lot has to do with my new neighborhood just not being a good place to run. So I need to get back into the practice of midday running on campus but until my lab work schedule gets a little more ironed out it’s hard to do.
I have however, taken 10 spin classes, 3 yoga classes, one solid gym session and am at about a 3 workout/week average. So I haven’t been doing nothing. Shout out to my spin studio NexCycle in St. James, they are fantastic and you should definitely check it out if you’re in the area (this is NOT sponsored, they are just that fantastic). All the instructors are fabulous and they just have a really great vibe. I’m really upset I didn’t go to them sooner since they’ve essentially been down the street since I’ve moved here.
How do you deal with calf pain?
I got a massage roller and have been rolling and rolling. Also I have been wearing my compression socks more lately but I can’t seem to get rid of this pain.
Have you ever gone through a phase where you just don’t want to run?
